The chapter describes how you can use Categories in the SymbolsPalette.
Remark: The description and images in this chapter have the focus on the P&ID classes. However, everything in this chapter applies to Custom Classes (see Create Custom Class) too.
Toggle between Classes and Categories
Be default the class structure is shown. This is convenient, because most users are familiar with the class structure of P&ID because of Data Manager. If you click on the toggle button in the upper left hand corner you can switch over to the categories. The categories are similar to the tabs in the AutoCAD Tool Palette. We created standard categories based on these tabs to ensure an easy transition from the AutoCAD Tool Palette to the SymbolsPalette. If you click on a category you see the symbols. In the class structure you see all node which have either sub nodes or a symbol. That means you don't see any classes which have no symbol.

Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). If you want to create a new category you click on "Add" from the context menu in the category panel. A dialog opens where you can select the classes you want in the new category. You add classes by dragging and dropping them to the right . You will see, that the class is greyed out in the tree indicating, that this class is part of the category. To change the order of the classes you drag and drop the classes below each other. Now they are in a different order. The order is used for the other of the symbols of each of the classes (assuming you don't use alphabetical ordering from the tool bar above the right pane in the SymbolsPalette. At the bottom you type in a name for the category. After clicking OK you see the new category and its symbols. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). If you want to make changes to the category you use "Edit". The dialog opens again where you can make changes. For example, adding or removing classes or changing the class order or renaming the category. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Removing Classes from Categories
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). To remove a class from the list, you simply drag and drop the class to the left tree. It doesn't matter where you drop it. Now the class is gone. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). To rename a category you just change the category name. Next you have several options. Rename category will rename the Category. Copy as new category will make a copy of the category under the new name. Reset category name will ignore the change in the category name. And this is how it looks when you use Copy as new category. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). If you want to delete a category you use "Delete". Now the category is gone. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). You can move categories also by using drag & drop. make sure, that you have the blue arrow which indicates, that the category will be moved between to other categories. Now the category is on its new location. If you move the category down the blue arrow points down too. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). To hide a category you use Hide from the context menu of the category you want to hide. Hide just means, that the category isn't visible anymore, but the category won't be deleted. Now the category disappeared. If you use the Show/Hide categories toggle button in the left toolbar... The hidden category is visible again, but greyed out so you know, that it is typically hidden. Instead of the toggle button, you can also use the context menu and select Hide all hidden marked categories. Now the category disappeared again. If a category shouldn't have the state hidden anymore, you show the hidden categories again, and then use Show from the context menu of the hidden category. Now the category isn't shown greyed out anymore. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
