This chapter describes how to use acquisition rules to get get values from the Assembly properties into the properties of the symbols and line segments.

Often you want the Tag of the Assembly also in your lines and symbols. Therefore, we create a new property under Engineering Items and use the option Acquisition.

Since the Assembly class can have several properties you can decide which of those properties you want to acquire for the symbols and lines. You are not limited to the Tag property.

In this case we acquire the Tag property from the Assembly class.

We now see the acquisition rule in the Assembly_Tag property for the Engineering Items class.

Make sure that the checkbox "When inserting a symbol in a the drawing, automatically relate it with the assemblies class" is checked. This is important, because otherwise the acquisition rules won't work, because there wouldn't be a relationship between the symbols and lines and their Assembly.

If the checkbox is not checked, then the relationships will be created when you click on the Assembly button in the ribbon, or when the checkbox for Assemblies under the "On Drawing Save" tab in the PlantExpressTools Settings is enabled and you save the drawing.
