This chapter describes how you can assign a different image to the symbol, line, or custom object and how you can edit the Display Name for the SymbolsPalette.
If you want to replace a line or symbol image for the SymbolsPalette, you first need to have a symbol. We recommend using size 60x60, because this is the size AutoCAD is using for the tool palette. We can conveniently use the exported symbols (see Export Images). Use some graphics program to modify the PNG file. To make it more conveniently for you, you should fill everything around the image with a transparent color. This way, the image will later look nice no matter if you use light or dark theme.

Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). To change the image you use Properties from the image's context menu. A dialog opens where you can select a symbol for the light and dark color scheme as well as the Display Name (see Change Display Name). The green check sign make sure, that dark and light theme are using the same image. Now you click on the ... button to select the image. You can also use Drag & Drop. The file explorer opens and you select the modified image. You will see, the path and file name of the selected image for the dark and light themes. If you want to use different images for Dark and Light theme, you click on the green check sign. Now that the state has changed ... ... you are able to select different images. If you have selected different images, but now want to use the same image you click on the grey check sign. Now you will be asked whether you want to keep the dark or the light images as the common image. Now you have the same image. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). If you want to have your images stored in your project you simply click on the icon to get the images copied to the images folder of the SymbolsPalette. The path to the images will be adapted to a relative path so the images can still be found when the project will later be copied. In the SymbolsPalette the new image is shown now. And this is how it looks in light theme. If you use different images for dark and light theme, both images will be copied into the Images folder. If the images are already in the Images folder you will get a dialog asking you whether to override the existing files in the Images folder or to use the existing ones in the Images folder. If you don't have an image set yourself, but you click on the + anyway, then the dialog will create Image files based on the default Images shown at the left and create independent file names using a GUID with _Dark and _Light at the end. The green check sign is also changed to a grey icon to support different images. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Automatically Copy images into project
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). If you do not copy the images into the project, the images will be copied automatically. This was necessary to ensure, that in an BIM360/ACC project, the images are available for a project. As soon as you close the Object Properties dialog, and the images have not been copied into the project, the following dialog will appear. If you click on Do not show this message again the dialog will not appear anymore and in the future the images will be automatically copied without notification. If you open the Object Properties dialog again you will see, that the paths to the images have been adapted. And the image files have been copied into the \ACPlantTools\PlantExpressTools\SymbolsPalette\Images folder in the project.

Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). If you want to reset the images to use the original image you click on the red cross icon. This will remove the image for the Dark and Light theme. If you want to delete only one of the images, then change the green icon to a grey one by clicking on the green icon. Now you can delete the Images individually. Or you use the Reset button to reset both images. Be aware, that this will also reset the Display Name (see Change Display Name). If you click Reset the dialog will close immediately. If you use Properties again, you will see, that both file names are gone. And the image is back to its original form. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). When changing the image of a Hyperlink the dialog looks a bit different than before. But in regards of the image everything is the same. In the dialog below you see the default images used for Hyperlinks.

Change Image for AutoCAD/AutoLISP Commands
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). When changing the image of an AutoCAD/AutoLISP Custom Object the dialog again looks a bit different than before. But in regards of the image everything is the same. In the dialog below you see the default images used for AutoCAD/AutoLISP Custom Objects. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
Change Images for Folder Links
Enable Edit Mode first (see Edit Mode). If you try to use the Context Menu for files shown when using a Folder Link then no Context Menu is shown. Therefore you cannot select another image for a file. The image of a file for the SymbolsPalette is either read from the file itself (e.g. when using an image file of sorts, or the file type image also used by Windows is used. This depends on the settings for the Folder Link. At the end of the process disable the Edit Mode again (see Edit Mode). |
